PSV achieved a victory (1-3) on Saturday evening in the far north against FC Groningen. With this, the Eindhoven side took an important step towards maintaining their second place. Mark Versteden reported on the match for Studio040 and reflects on it on Monday.
“PSV has secured a routine victory against FC Groningen, but the performance left something to be desired at times. Because PSV has better players, they won, but they are far from being a well-oiled machine,” says Versteden.
“You can see that the return of Malik Tillman to the team is a huge boost. On the other hand, Noa Lang played very poorly. He has a high ceiling but also a low floor. This led to irritation among teammates on the pitch,” says Versteden, who observed more expressions of annoyance.
“At one point, you also saw Boscagli arguing with the bench. Perhaps that was agreed upon, that irritations would be voiced more openly. It certainly stood out.”
Equaliser
Nevertheless, Peter Bosz’s team secured an important victory. “At 2-1, you could see that FC Groningen really had chances for the equaliser. I could still see them achieving a draw. There was also a real sense of relief at PSV when the score went to 3-1. You have now won three of your last four matches. That does instil some confidence for the last six games.”
Good feeling
Among those matches, PSV still has challenging away games against FC Twente and Feyenoord scheduled. “The fact that the matches against the smaller teams are being won gives a good feeling. And that is what you need to achieve good results against FC Twente and Feyenoord,” said Versteden.
