Nine-year-old “prodigy” Laurent Simons will soon receive his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).

Laurent originally hails from Ostend in Belgium. He more recently moved with his parents to Amsterdam. There he started high school at the age of six, one year later Laurent worked as a researcher at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam and when he was eight years old he obtained his high school diploma in mathematics-sciences in Bruges.

Nine-year-old Laurent will soon be able to add a university degree to this list of achievements. The nine-year-old started at TU/e in March 2019.  Within a short space of time, he has almost completed his final project. Normally students take three years to get the bachelor’s degree. In addition, Laurent is in the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest person ever to have earned a bachelor’s degree.

It is not yet clear which post-graduate training Laurent Simons will follow after obtaining his degree.
