The Eindhoven crematorium, Rijtackers, will unveil the ‘Sterrenlicht‘ (Starlight) monument on Wednesday. It commemorates stillborn children.

This monument is for parents who have lost their child in this manner. The memorial stands in a special field in which they can scatter their babies’ ashes. The unveiling takes place on the eve of the Rijtackers crematorium’s light evening. During this evening, families commemorate their loved ones with torches and music on lit paths.

According to the funeral organisation, DELA, parents need a place where they can remember their lost children. Joy Thijssen, Rijtackers’ Funeral director, is pleased that this kind of loss is gaining more attention. “A monument such as this supports parents and helps them keep the memory of their child alive,” she says.

Parents have been able to register their stillborn children since February. About 10 000 people have already done so.
