The Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, is very enthusiastic and has congratulated the Solar Team Eindhoven for their victory in the Cruiser Class of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.

It is the fourth consecutive time the Solar Team Eindhoven has secured the first place. After the announcement, Prime Minister Rutte called the Eindhoven team.

‘Congratulations! What an achievement again’, the Prime Minister starts the conversation. It seems like it’s going to be normal.’ ‘ Well, when we think about how much we have had to endure, it is certainly not something normal. It is not something which we are going to get used to’, responds Team Manager, Carijn Mulder.

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge did not run smoothly this year. During the transport of the solar car, Stella Era, a beam of the transport box caused a hole in a solar panel. On day four of the race, strong winds and a sandstorm got the Eindhoven team into trouble. As a result, the team was unable to drive efficiently. This meant the number two and three teams, Germany and Australia, were very close behind. But not close enough.

The TU/e students achieved a total winning score of 204.8, of which 111.7 points for efficiency and 93.1 for comfort and innovations. This score puts the team far ahead of its competitors in both areas. ‘You deserve to be proud’, Rutte continues the conversation. ‘It puts the Netherlands back on the map! I really want to congratulate everyone.’
