The Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven has been in use for a while now. However, it was officially opened today by none other than King Willem-Alexander.

Eindhoven’s Mayor, John Jorritsma, accompanied the Head of State on a tour of the campus. According to Omroep Brabant, more than 1.500 people were invited to the official opening.

The King also laid a commemorative coin at the entrance of the building. He used a tablet to sign his initials. These letters were then engraved on the coin. This coin forms the final piece of an artwork that stands at the entrance of the building.

The Factory of the Future

High-tech companies and knowledge institutes work together at the BIC. The site is called the ‘Factory of the Future’. It is built in such a way that knowledge and material can easily be exchanged. About 2.000 employees and students already work at the Campus.

Today, employees from different companies showed how this collaboration takes shape in practice and what latest innovations it provides. This building that was officially taken into use is the first of the five, which will ultimately form the Brainport. When everything is ready, all these buildings together will cover an area of a million square metres.
