The Maximá Medical Center (MMC) will be a completely non-smoking hospital. From 1 October, smoking is not permitted anywhere on the site. The ban applies to both locations in Eindhoven and Veldhoven. And also for the e-smokers.

The date of the 1st of October is not just chosen at random. It is also the start of ‘Stoptober’, a national campaign in which smokers are encouraged to stop smoking for at least one month.

Lung doctor Horis van Enschot is happy with the decision: “As a large healthcare institution, we must set a good example,” he says. ‘We have to deal with the consequences of smoking every day. That’s why we encourage a healthy lifestyle.”

With this decision, the Maximá Medical Center joins more and more hospitals in the Netherlands that decide to make their sites completely smoke-free.
