Canoes burn in Valkenswaard

Hundreds of canoes went up in flames on Monday night at the Rofra recreation company in Valkenswaard.

The fire broke out at around 23:45. Firefighters had the fire under control and could fairly quickly start extinguishing the fire at around 01:00. However, the damage was severe, with almost 300 canoes having been destroyed. The damage runs into several hundreds of thousands of euros.

The destroyed canoes were on Rofra’s site on Molenstraat.

The police and Forensic Detection have launched an investigation and have asked witnesses to come forward. The police and fire departments suspect arson. And it is not the first time; in 2017 and 2018 the company was also targeted.
