Van Abbe celebrates nomination with robot art

The Van Abbe Museum has been nominated for the Bankgiroloterij’s Museum award. Bankgiroloterij is a Dutch lottery.

The museum is now trying to win the prize with a unique work of art. The Human Study #1 does portraits of about 30 people per day. A robot creates these pieces. This robot makes a video of a person’s face. By adding all the faces to the work of art, one giant face is formed. This artwork’s message is that the Van Abbe Museum is for everyone.

The award for the most public-friendly museum is the Netherland’s most important cultural prize. The Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam and Museum Rotterdam are also in the running. You can cast your vote until 8 May, here, on the Bankgiroloterij’s website.
