First Liberation festival cancelled

Eindhoven’s first liberation festival, set for 21 September, has been cancelled. The Eindhoven Student Corps were unable to organise the event in time.

Students spokesman Lars Raijmakers points out to have been too late in applying for a permit. There also was confusion about grants and sponsors.

Next year the students will try again. They are hoping that the Lichtplein will be full of students and residents who celebrate freedom. The organization expects between 1,000 and 2,000 visitors.

On 18 September 1944 Eindhoven was liberated. Lars Raijmakers, co-organizer of the festival, finds little involvement with Eindhoven residents.
“Eindhoven has an extensive history, parts we actually never hear. That is why we organize the liberation festival, to celebrate and to take note again.”
