Eindhoven expats celebrate Koningsdag at the Hub

Internationals gathered at the Hub in Eindhoven yesterday to celebrate Koningsdag. A highlight of the day was the official opening of the upgraded catering facilities.

This was done by Tom McMasters. He represented ASML, who sponsored the upgrade.

Tom McMasters and Natasja van der Velden, the Hub’s Event Manager toast the upgraded facilities.

Expats not only got to watch live coverage of the royal family’s visit to Tilburg on the big screen, they also learned to play typical Dutch games like koekhappen, sjoelen and spijkerpoepen. The kids were not forgotten and they decorated cupcakes, played dominoes and other games. Local specialities like oranjebitter, ranja and soesjes were also served.

Another highlight was the singing of the national anthem, the ‘Wilhemus’.

Natasja van der Velden, the events manager at the Hub, said that the goal of the event was to introduce expats to Dutch traditions to teach them a bit about the history of Koningsdag. “We had a very gezellige day,” she said.
