New icon for Edisonplein in Woensel West

There will be a new eye-catcher for the neighbourhood Woensel West. On the corner of Edisonstraat and the 2deFranklinstraat, a block of colourful houses will sit on a large pedestal. The “Verheven Huisjes” by Bygg Architects won the design competition of the Trudo Corporation.

The design was the winner from 41 entries, five of which fought it out in the final. The jury choose this entry because it is a beautiful icon for the neighbourhood, and a feasible construction project that gives a nod to the history of the area.

The winning design is not the only eye-catcher for Woensel West. In 2012, Trudo began planning to construct several striking buildings around Edisonstraat in order to polish the image of poor neighbourhood. The ‘Baeken en Gezellenhuis’ was previously completed.

The Edisonplein will also be developed with the Verheven Huisjes project. There will be more green spaces and play facilities for children.
