Runway Eindhoven Airport has reopened

As of today the runway is in use again, from Vliegbasis (Air base) Eindhoven and Eindhoven Airport.

This morning the first plane landed at the military airport, a Hercules-unit of de Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Dutch Royal Air Force). The first passenger flights have also landed and departed from Eindhoven Airport.

The runway was in need of a new asphalt layer after twelve years’ of usage. Minor renovation had taken place in the past and was conducted at night, so flights would not be disrupted during day time. This option however was not possible this time.

Deteriotation of a runway is a normal, and maintenance is necessary every ten to fifteen years. The cost of the renovation totalled almost eleven million euros.
