Southeast Brabant to tackle suicide increase

Efforts will be made in Southeast Brabant to reduce the number of suicides, the ED reports.

The region saw a recent increase in the number of suicides, from 72 in 2007 to 87 last year. Nationally, the increase is even larger.

The GGD (municipal health service) is working on a plan of action to highlight the problem and facilitate easier access to mental health care. The new approach will involve aid organisations, doctors, schools, police, and debt collection agencies.

The GGD’s plan is due to be unveiled in the spring.
