Eindhoven innovative plans win Ambition award

Two innovative Eindhoven initiatives have won the Ambition 2020 Challenge of MVO Nederland (Dutch organization for Corporate Social Responsibility). MVO helps to actually realize the sustainable ideas of winners Ioniqa and Sur+.

Ioniqa is a TU/e spin-off and focuses on an innovative way of recycling PET plastic, which is used, among other things, for the manufacturing of soft drink bottles. Up to now, PET could only be re-used in products that had the same colour.

Ioniqa is the only company in the world that has developed a way to remove the colour from PET in an energy and cost efficient manner. This paves the way for a complete PET recycling process, in which the plastic can be reused over and over again.

The project SUR+ wants to put an end to food waste and food poverty by improving cooperation within the chain. Using a smart system, it looks for farmers with surpluses, whom they eventually bring into contact with food banks .
