GroenLinks and D66 want car-free Sunday during marathon

GroenLinks (green left party) and D66 (‘Democraten 66’, democrat party) are pushing for ‘car-free Sunday’ in Eindhoven during the DLL marathon.

Aireas, an organization campaigning for cleaner air, said last week that no cars should be allowed on the Sunday of the marathon. GroenLinks and D66 are now looking into the feasibility of this, and have asked the board to consider car-free Sunday.

This would mean banning cars from the city during the marathon starting next year, which would also contribute to cleaner air in the city. Jean Paul Close of Aireas thinks cleaner air might even help Eindhoven win a world record.

"I don’t know if we can prove it, but maybe in time we’d achieve a world record by ensuring that Eindhoven has cleaner air than other cities", said Close.
