Eindhoven designer to work for IKEA

IIKEA has commissioned Eindhoven’s Piet Hein Eek to develop new products.

Eek will design collections for each of the Swedish multinational’s divisions – furniture, lamps, vases, cutlery, and other utensils – to be marketed worldwide. Eek told NCRQ it was a great opportunity for him, adding that "I can now demonstrate my way of thinking on the world’s biggest platform".

48- year-old Eek was known 25 years ago for his reclaimed wood cabinets, following his graduation from Eindhoven’s Design Academy.

Simple materials and minimalism are the designer’s trademarks. Eek’s workshop, housed in a former Philips factory in Eindhoven with its own showroom and restaurant, has 95 employees designing, manufacturing, and selling
