Romanian couple on suspicion of human trafficking

The police have arrested a 26-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from Romania on suspicion of human trafficking.

Officers of the Prostitution Team found an adult woman from Romania last week. She had no valid identity papers, nor a work permit, money or personal belongings. She also could not speak Dutch.

Investigations revealed that the woman was probably forced to work in prostitution. The trail led to the duo in Romania.

An extradition request was made, and the couple could be arrested in their homeland. Last Wednesday they were extradited to the Netherlands. In the mean time they have been brought before the magistrate. They remain temporarily retained for a fortnight.
