Guardado important to Gold Cup Mexico title

Last night, Andres Guardado won the Gold Cup tournament with Mexico.

The 3-1 victory over Jamaica was thanks in part to a goal by the PSV player. The midfielder captained the Mexican team, which started as favourite to win the tournament, in the last weeks.

The team has fulfilled that initial promise, with Guardado at their head. He scored six goals in six matches, and has been named player of the tournament.

While PSV rounds off the preparations with a defeat against Guardado’s old club Valencia, Guardado himself is able to enjoy a short break.

He will return to Eindhoven on Thursday at the latest. Whether he will also play in the match for the Johan Cruijff Schaal this Sunday has still to be made known.
