Mayor Van Gijzel announced that an extra, flexible camera will be installed in order to limit the nuisance caused by drug dealers at the Vestdijk
There are already cameras at the Vestdijk near the Albert Heijn supermarket, but they are not flexible ones. Because of this, the well-known troublemakers can prevent being filmed fairly easily.
According to Van Gijzel, the problems mainly occur during weekends, on Fridays and Saturdays. Sometimes as many as ten to twenty troublemakers gather there, for dealing drugs and other forms of mischief.
The flexible camera will be installed for a maximum period of four months. Afterwards it will be removed or installed elsewhere.
