‘Standing ovation’ on 18 Septemberplein in Eindhoven

Today, on the 18th Septemberplein, passers-by might receive a standing ovation from the public. Literally an applause from other shoppers and citizens. This is an initiative by ‘Gaaf’ (cool), an organisation that tries to promote positivity amongst citizens in the country.

Random people on the street are asked to step on a stool, and then experience ‘the applause of their lives, "because everyone should receive a standing ovation at least once in their lives", says the organisation.

That they chose today, Blue Monday, for this initiative, is no coincidence. Blue Monday, is supposedly the most depressing day of the year, a dark, cold weary start of the week when many good intentions of the new year have already been broken.

The standing ovations take place from 12 noon for half an hour, on the 18 Septemberplein.
