And yet again a cyclist was hit by a car on the Beemdstraat roundabout. Again … because, unfortunately, this was not the first time. Yesterday at 11:15 another cyclist got hurt and had to be taken to hospital with a head injury. A similar accident happened ten days ago, when a cyclist was hit by a van.
The Eindhoven municipality is going to start an investigation into the cause of these accidents. Since the renovation of the bicycle crossing last May there have been several accidents involving cyclists, of whom quite a number were injured.
Minor reconstruction work on the roundabout was done in May in order to improve safety, but the desired result obviously has not been achieved. It is not clear yet whether the roundabout is going to be reconstructed more extensively now. The municipality will look into this matter, in cooperation with the cyclists’ union.
