Saturday, 5,000 people participated in the first edition of the Rainbow Run 040 in Genneper Parken. The event raised more than 100,000 Euro to fight ALS.
The 5K Run was organized by friends of Eindhovener Hein van Duivenboden, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. The 5,000 participants could run, walk or ride a wheelchair along the 5 kilometre route and were covered by different colours of powdered paint.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Most people with ALS die from respiratory failure, usually within 3 to 5 years from the onset of the symptoms.
