Plane with evacuees from Sudan landed in Eindhoven

A plane with evacuees from southern Sudan landed on Saturday morning at military airbase Eindhoven.

On board were dozens of Dutch employees, among others from different development organisations.
They were asked to leave the turbulent East African country. A small group of Dutch would still stay in southern Sudan. They are mainly embassy staff.

According to Foreign Affairs the country is dangerous. There is fighting and a shortage of food and drinks is looming.

Southern Sudan stands at the foot of a civil war. There is a battle between rival militias. The country became independent from Sudan in 2011.
