Stronger cooperation between Brainport and Taipei

Brainport Region Eindhoven and Taipei are going to intensify cooperation in the years to come.

This decision was made during a work visit of Mayor Van Gijzel in Asia last week, where he also visited the Taiwanese capital Taipei. The visit’s goal was to strengthen the relations.

The TU/e and the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This letter of intent enables the exchange of professors, staff and students between the two universities.

Taipei has also been announced World Design Capital in 2016 last week. Taipei’s mayor, Hau, says they received the title thanks to the support from the Netherlands. "I am very grateful to Mayor Rob Van Gijzel for backing up our bid in 2011. The support from the city of Eindhoven as a global hotspot in the field of design definitely helped in the jury’s decision-making process."

Mayor Van Gijzel, together with a delegation from the TU/e and the Design Academy, also visited the VDL Group’s new factory in Singapore.
