Weight training at the pool

Eindhoven city council agreed to plans for a weights room at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming pool on Tuesday evening.

The Centre for Top-level Sports & Education (CTO) and the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB) both expressed a need for one. The Swimming Federation which uses the facility on a daily basis wants to rent fixed spaces for their technical staff and the swimmers. In addition, the local sports college and sport clubs based around Genneper Park would like to use a weights room there. Building a weights room will cost an estimated 1.2 million Euros. This will be funded partly by the city council, the province and the sports organization NOC/NSF (umbrella body for organized sports in The Netherlands). The rest of the costs must be covered by rental of the facilities to third parties. The building is set to start next month and will be completed by the end of this year or early next year.
