Stratumseind Street Festival to go ahead

The very first Stratumseind Street festival will take place on Stratumseind next weekend. All the permits have been finalized.

The aim of the festival is to show that Stratumseind is more than just a street of bars where young people gather. The primary aim of the initiators, Dorothée Foole and Hans van den Oord is to bring vitality back to the street. Creative business people will have the chance to sell their products at the market. A number of landlords have already agreed to open their premises during the day. You can attend sports workshops at café Aloys, for instance and visit an exhibition by Eindhoven artists in De Oude Rechtbank.1000 ‘forgotten’ jackets will also be sold on Stratumseind. These are coats and jackets left behind in bars after a night out. They will be sold for a small sum and the proceeds will be used to brighten up Stratumseind. The entrepreneurial organizations Stichting Ondernemers Eindhoven Centrum SOEC and the Vereniging Horecabelangen Stratumseind are each donating 5000 euros for the festival. Eindhoven council can spare a small amount, said Foole, but it won’t be anything like 5000 euros. With 11 consecutive Saturdays planned, this year will act as a pilot. Foole hopes that the Stratumseind Street Festival can be organized on a permanent basis from next year.
