Autistics refused at schools

Thirty complaints were received on the ‘Autism-refusing schools’ hotline.

The hotline is available for people who have been denied entry to a vocational education school because of autism, despite fulfilling the entry requirements.
From 2014, there will be a new law: ‘Passend Onderwijs’ (appropriate education). Under this law, people on the autism spectrum will should move on to normal schools.
The foundation ‘Speciaal Onderwijs’ (special education) Eindhoven doesn’t give credit to the complaints. The foundation, which focuses mainly on primary and secondary education, indicated that within the secondary intermediate vocational schools there are still means to guide these students.
Research has shown that there is a relatively high number of people affected by autism in the Eindhoven region. This is due to the extensive engineering sector.
