More lessons on sexual abuse at Fontys, Eindhoven

EINDHOVEN – Fontys colleges intend to focus more on sexual abuse in the social science courses in the future. This was the statement issued by the HBO course organizers in Eindhoven in response to the report issued by Samson.

The Samson Committee carried out investigations into sexual abuse in juvenile institutions and foster homes. Almost 15% of the children taken into care have experienced unwanted sexual advances. The Fontys course ‘Social Pedagogical Wellfare’ prepares its students for careers in children’s social services. Each year of the course covers aspects of sexuality. Sexologist Leanne van Eijk from Fontys College says it is very important. Carers have to learn to deal with very complicated situations. Van Eijk :”How do you deal with a situation where a client falls in love with you? How do you deal with a client’s sexual needs?”The Samson Committee was formed by ministers Hirsch Ballin and Rouvoet.
