Brabant Bell for the Olympic Games in London

ASTEN – Royal Eijsbouts in Asten has received an Olympic order. The company is busy making a huge bell for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics which are to be held in London next summer.

The bell will weigh 23 tonnes and is therefore the largest ever manufactured in Western Europe. Recently it was announced that Royal Eijsbouts will also supply a bell for Notre Dame in the French capital Paris. The Olympic bell was originally ordered from Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London. This company already poured bells including Big Ben in the English capital, but the foundry did not have the capacity to produce the bell required for their “own” games.A number of English media outlets have reported outraged responses due to the fact that a non-English company was given the order for the bell. “The mission was a huge boost for the economy,” the Mirror reported.Source: Omroep Brabant
