Time capsule buried at construction Islamic school

Alderman Visscher placed a time capsule filled with drawings at the site of the new Islamic primary school Tarieq Tarieq Ibnoe Ziyad, this morning.

The drawings were made by pupils of the school. The capsule is made of a polyurethane cylinder, sealed at both ends. ‘If the capsule is opened a hundred years from now, the drawings will give an idea of how things were at the time’, explains director Matthijs Vermaas.

Construction on the school on Woenselsestraat is in full swing. Lessons are continuing meantime at the temporary location on Frankrijkstraat. Construction will be completed in the summer. After the school moves in, lessons will begin at the new location in the new school year.

It took fifteen years for the new building to become a reality. The new school/social complex will contain fourteen classrooms and a communal area for the 265 pupils of the primary school and there will also be space for Korein childcare. A possible need for growth has been taken into account. Later, a total of 300 children can be catered for.
