Splinterspektakel is starting again

0

It’s a real tradition in the last week of the summer holiday: the Splinterspektakel. At Speelpark de Splinter all kinds of activities are being organised this week.

Especially families who do not have the opportunity to go on holiday, are the target audience of this Splinterspektakel. “Our goal is to offer each child a fun time during school holidays, so that each child can tell a nice story at school after the holidays,” the organisation says.

Daily there are varying activities at children’s park the Splinter. From a forty-meter-long assault course to a carnival express, a salsa workshop, or a bubble bath.

The Splinterspektakel lasts until Friday.

Less visitors for Park Hilaria

0

Park Hilaria welcomed less visitors this year. Eindhoven’s annual summer fair suffered from August’s heatwave.

The seventeenth edition of the fair attracted 450,000 visitors in ten days. This is slightly less than in previous years. The weather simply did not help Park Hilaria. The first day it was extremely hot and Thursday it rained a lot.

According to the organization, the seventeenth edition of the fair was a success anyway. The afternoons remained slightly less busy due to the heat. The evenings however, were far busier. This year, there were no incidents at the fair either.

The most popular attractions this year, were the Disco Jumper XXL and the Gladiator. among the most spectacular attractions, these two were extremely popular and busy and the favourites of visitors

New this year was the VR-Experience and the Zanzibar, which joined Park Hilaria for the first time. Good to know and to jot down in your 2019 diary: the fair will take place from the second till 11th of August next year.

Refugee art show by Love Without Borders

Love Without Borders will be presenting a refugee art show in Eindhoven, for one day only. It will be on 23 September 2018 at Soulkitchen,Torenallee 55, 5617 BA Eindhoven, Strijp-S. The show will be from 12:00 to 18:00hrs.

Love Without Borders is an organisation which aims to empower refugees who live in Greek camps. They provide a platform, tools and support so refugees can express their emotions in art, which helps them to overcome trauma. Their artwork can serve as a means to better their economic position.

Through the platform, they can also spread awareness of their miserable conditions in the shelters where they live as well as giving exposure to their pieces of art.

Love Without Borders provides donation-funded art supplies to the refugees–men, women, and children alike. They put an effort in organising exhibitions and sell the resulting works of art around the world with the help of communities who host art shows. They return one hundred percent of the earnings from the sale of refugees’ artwork to the artist who created the piece.

They additionally raise funds for all other day-to-day supplies for these and other refugees living in the camps.

In 2015, the founder, Kayra Martinez, started organizing collections of needed items like coats and warm clothing in her Frankfurt community and later decided to volunteer in the refugee camps in the north of Greece. She was a flight attendant for United Airlines based in Frankfurt, Germany. She heard about the horrible conditions in which asylum seekers were made to live in and she wanted to make a difference.

The entrance to the art show is free and there will be delicious food and discussion opportunities too.

Here you can find more information on Love Without Borders. Or you can mail them om LWOBartshows@gmail.com

The weather changed a bit, but the summer isn’t over yet.. that means that still quite a few festivals are there to come. This particular one will take place on Sunday 19th of August.

Watching a movie for parents with babies at Natlab

0

The film theatre Natlab in Strijp-S has special shows for parents with young babies.

Watching a movie with babies is often still a hell of a job. When they cry you should leave the theatre. Filling a room only with parents with babies ensures they all can enjoy the movie. Even if a child begins to cry.

During the performances, the lights in the room remain switched on and the sound of the movie is muted. Every Sunday there is a special baby performance in the Natlab, so that even the smallest can go to the cinema and parents can relax for a while.

As an international you can select the English spoken movies of course.

It is not a new concept, in Scandinavia, Australia and Canada for example, this is a known phenomenon.

Park Hilaria popular despite heat

0

This weekend, crowds continued to visit Park Hilaria. Despite high temperatures, the event remains immensely popular.

So far, the temporary amusement park along the John F. Kennedylaan, has drawn over 150,000 visitors. As mentioned in our previous post, the 17th edition started Friday.

During this weekend, afternoons attracted few visitors. This was obviously caused by the glaring sun and high temperatures. On the other hand, the evenings were a lot busier than normal.

Additional water points

Because of the high temperatures, extra water points have been installed aross the site. If this does not help visitors to cool down enough, they can also opt for a “total cool down” under a “hilarious” shower.

Park Hilaria lasts until August 12th.
