No cultural grant for these two

0

From next year, two local cultural companies won’t get a subsidy from the government.

They are TROMP Percussion Festival and dance company, United Cowboys. A number of other cultural institutions will receive a subsidy. That’s what the National Fund Performing Arts has decided.

The fund received applications from all over the Netherlands for subsidies for the period 2021 – 2024. It then issued an opinion on the applications.

Every two years, TROMP Percussion organises a competition and festival for classical solo percussion in Eindhoven. According to the fund, there is little artistic collaboration at the festival. TROMP is currently still receiving a subsidy from the fund. It’s not yet known how the gap will be filled.

First time

The United Cowboys dance company organises visual arts and dance performances. The fund hasn’t awarded any subsidy for this. None of the projects the company submitted gives any indication about what the public will see. It was, however, the first time that United Cowboys applied to the fund.

The Jazz event, What’s Next Eindhoven, will receive a subsidy of €37,500. Afslag Eindhoven, which performs theatre on location, will receive a subsidy of €125,000. The Ruggeds dance company will also receive an amount of €125,000.

According to Studio040, TROMP Percussion and United Cowboys were unavailable for comment on Tuesday afternoon.

Dutch Technology Festival kicks off again

The Dutch Technology Festival will kick off on Wednesday in the Klokgebouw building. For a whole week, all kinds of activities will be organised to enthuse young people in particular about a career in technology.

There will also be a lot of networking between companies, government institutions and knowledge institutes from the technology sector. According to the organisation, the festival has become the stage for promoting technology.

During the kick-off at Strijp-S, speakers from Brainport Development and ASML, among others, will be present. They will discuss the importance of promoting technology, also to be able to attract enough professionals and engineers in the future. This is of great importance to the high-tech region of Eindhoven.

Night of the Nerds

In the coming week, children and young people can take a look at various tech companies in the region. In addition, they can do tests and set to work on technical assignments. For example, Night of the Nerds is being held at Strijp-S. There, children learn how to programme music, test new games or build their own racing car.

Corona

In recent years, the event was on hiatus due to the corona pandemic. In 2019, the week attracted more than 40,000 visitors.

Local visits all Eindhoven Quiz spots

0

Sandra Groeneveld from Eindhoven visited 100 special places.

These were all featured in the Grote Eindhoven Quiz. She took a selfie at each of the sites. It started as a joke. During the quiz, Sandra didn’t know where the zebra crossing at Strijp-T was.

Even though she knew she had seen it somewhere before. “When I saw the picture during the quiz, I couldn’t think of it. A few days later, I came across the crossing at Strijp-T.”

Selfies

“I sent a selfie to the friends I had played the quiz. I added, ‘I should have known about these’,” Sandra says. “Then they jokingly asked whether I was going to visit the other 99 locations as well.”

“A few were within walking distance. That was a good reason to get out of the house. Others I visited by bicycle with my young daughter.”

“And sometimes we would drive to a neighbourhood and take a walk there,” Sandra says. “In the end, we did them all. It was very cool.”

KommuS Radio is a local Geldrop radio station. They will be playing on Horecaplein in Geldrop.

That will happen on Sunday, 16 August, between 12:00 and 23:00. The DJ’s will broadcast live on the square.

People sitting on the terraces can ask for their holiday greetings to be aired. Or ask for a nice number to be played. Or just tell us how they like their holiday so far.

The organisers do, however, warn, “Because of the anti-coronavirus measures, dancing or even staying at the studio too long is, unfortunately, not allowed. So make sure you find a nice table on one of the terraces, order a cold drink, and enjoy the summer”.

2nd 30 Seconds game night soon

0

What is more fun than meeting new people and having a laugh while playing a fun board game? Sound good?

Then come to the Student Hotel in Stationsweg, Eindhoven on Tuesday, 8 January at 20:00. The 2nd 30 Seconds Board game get-together will be held. In this game, you have to guess as many topics as possible, cryptically described, in 30 seconds. This popular game is now also being used in Eindhoven as a tool to help expats meet each other, and the locals.

The familiarity and accessibility of this board game are the starting points for organisers, Frank van der Vleuten of OUTtogether and Irene Martens of the Eindhoven News. They organise a monthly game night at the Student Hotel. “Whether you speak Dutch or can only understand English”, explains Frank, “the game’s design makes it an easy way for everyone to laugh with each other.”

“We noticed that there is a great need for activities for internationals to interact with the Eindhoveners”, adds Irene. “The game brings local and international people into contact with each other. It is also a great way to improve your Dutch and English.”

Park Hilaria entrepreneurs staying over in Eindhoven again

The ‘Funfair village’ will be in Eindhoven this year again and no longer in Helmond, as was the case in recent years.

The trailers, caravans and trucks of the funfair entrepreneurs were parked, on previous editions of Park Hilaria, at an area in Helmond. That site is sold by the Helmond Municipality and so a search for a new temporarily domicile began. Mariola Scheepstra, of the organisation of the fair, was looking to find a location as close to the fairground as possible. Sports park Eindhoven Noord in the district of Woensel has been chosen to accommodate the entrepreneurs.

Closer
“We are pleased that this location is closer than the one in Helmond. Last year we already knew that we had to go to a new place”, says an entrepreneur.
The parking lot where the funfair entrepreneurs will be staying, lies in between sports fields, a residential area and a school. The school playground will also be used for temporary settling. The tennis club and the hockey club will together use one parking space for the time being. “All simple solutions that we can come up with during the summer holidays”, says Scheepstra.

Local residents
The “local residents” have been informed via a letter that the ‘Funfair village’ is settling in their neighbourhood. The nearest houses are, however, about a hundred meters from the car park. Starting on Friday, the facilities are constructed on the site. On Monday the first funfair entrepreneurs will arrive.
