“Smart DC Lofts” at Strijp-S will run entirely on direct current

Strijp S has once again become an “experimental garden”. In cooperation with VolkerWesselsiCity and Bouwinvest, 14 lofts in Blok 61 will run entirely with direct current.  The new “smart DC lofts” will not use any type of converters or batteries, and will be optimized in order to minimize energy wastage.

Moreover, the lofts will be equipped with the latest “smart” technologies, such as interactive systems that can be controlled with an app on a smartphone.  According to VolkerWessels, interaction with the tenants is crucial in order to monitor the new techniques and efficiency of the apartments, keeping the comfort of the tenants at an optimal level.

The Dutch agency for entrepreneurship, RVO (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland) is subsiding this initiative. The project should, eventually, result in a mature market solution for the future. Many partners are involved in the project, including among others ABB, Direct Current and Enervalis.

The smart DC lofts are planned to be delivered in June with functionalities similar to other lofts of Blok 61. In consultation with the tenant, the DC smart functionalities will be implemented and tested.
