Council tells Catharinakerk: accept gays to receive funding for new organ

The city council will invest in a new organ for the Catharinakerk – but only if the church agrees to “be friendlier towards homosexuals”.

A letter from the municipality, which owns the church, said the current lease limits opportunities for local residents to use the church. It also said the church must be more open to everyone, including gay people.

Besides a new organ, the church’s altar, lighting, and windows will also need restoration work.
