‘Redundancies at NXP if take-over goes ahead’

If NXP is taken over by the American company Qualcomm, there will be redundancies at the Eindhoven chip manufacturer. This is the expectation of the unions, according to the ED.

The unions also believe that Eindhoven’s position as head-office of NXP could be threatened. It is expected that a number of jobs will be moved to San Diego in California, where Qualcomm is established.

Qualcomm is said to be prepared to pay around 30 billion Euros for the Eindhoven chip manufacturer. It is as yet unclear just how advanced the take-over negotiations are between the two concerns.

The unions expect the NXP technological research departments to remain in Eindhoven, since they differ too much from those of Qualcomm.
