Mayor Rob van Gijzel, has been chosen as the first ‘European Digital Leader’, yesterday evening. The title was awarded to him for his efforts in promoting Eindhoven as one of the world’s Smartest Cities. The award ceremony took place yesterday evening, at the CIO City conference.
The CIO City conference is a CIONET initiative. CIONET is a Chief Information Officers network and it consists of people that are responsible for digital information and ICT facilities in companies and organisations. This is the first time that this award is granted.
The jury members concluded, that Mayor van Gijzel, was the driving force behind Eindhoven area being selected as the smartest region in the world in 2011. Thus surpassing regions as Silicon Valley and Seoul.
