Eindhoven safer, but violence on the increase

Eindhoven has become a lot safer in in 2015. This in comparison to the previous year, according to data from the municipality of Eindhoven.

Organized crime, burglaries and street robberies, in these categories of crimes the number of police reports have decreased in the city. The same applies to car break-ins and bike theft. In addition the operation of three major criminal youth groups causing a lot of nuisance have been eradicated after they were given special attention.

Despite the improvements there is still cause for concern. Violence in the city has increased dramatically. The number of reports of violence increased during 2015 as compared to 2014. This category is divided in three sections: overt acts of violence, assault and threats.

Assaults and threats increased by 8 percent. Overt acts of violence increased the most. This increased by almost half as compared to the previous year. As overt acts of violence can vary widely, this particular form of violence will be looked at even closer by taking more time to analyse the reports in minute detail and see what measures can be taken to reduce this type of criminal offenses.

There were also more pickpockets in the city. This also increased by 8 percent in Eindhoven.
