TU/e: On the way to English-language education

At the beginning of this academic year the Executive Board informed the deans that all the Bachelor education must become English. By the end of 2017 nearly all lectures and practicals at TU/e will be in English.

Bachelor programs in Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Chemical Engineering and Chemistry are planning to switch by September 2017. At Industrial Engineering ‘the discussion is ongoing’, at Biomedical Engineering and Medical Sciences and Technology they will not be making the switch for the time being.

Two major reasons are mentioned by Rector Frank Baaijens: one is to train students to work in an international environment. International students can follow their Bachelor’s programs. The other one is that the top scientists from all across the globe can be deployed for Bachelor education.
