More and more supermarkets open at Christmas

We are used to being able to do shopping on Boxing Day. But now, more and more supermarkets are opening on Christmas Day too.

Last year, only the Albert Heijn at Cassandraplein was open. This year, supermarkets at Strijpsestraat and Leenderweg are following their lead, and branches of Jumbo and Plus are also opening their doors.

However, a number of supermarkets will be closed at Christmas. Which ones they are is determined by Head Office. Staff at the AH branch at Orionstraat will not be working. Manager Harold Coppens accepts it gracefully. ‘I have only respect for my staff and am glad they will be spending quality time at home with their families at Christmas. There are enough stores open for people to do their shopping.’
