Achtse Barrier against AZC Orangerie becoming permanent shelter

Two neighbourhood associations in the Achtse Barrier have opposed plans to make the AZC in the Orangerie a permanent refugee shelter.

In a letter to the city council, the Leefbaarheidsteam (Habitability team) Achtse Barrier and Bewonersgroep (Residents’ group) Achtse Barrier Noord Oost voted to house refugees for a maximum of two years only.

The COA (Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum seekers) is expected to unveil a plan early next year. This plan and the neighbourhood associations’ letter will both be taken into account when the council makes its final decision on providing long-term asylum at the Orangerie.
