Hall filled with toys for 500 poor families

A hall, full of toys for 500 poor families, opened its doors in Strijp yesterday morning . Eindhoven families on a tight budget can collect toys parcels there, to help them during the expensive holiday season.

150 volunteers of Foundation ‘Speelkr8’ (PlayPower) have been collecting toys for years. The toys have been donated by individuals and companies such as Albert Heijn and Ikea.

This year, the campaign is mainly intended for poor households, which have not previously received any toys. For instance, families that have been getting social welfare for less than a year. There is also special attention for families who are not eligible for any of the poverty schemes, because they earn just a little more than the minimum wage.

According to the foundation, there is a sizable group of Eindhoven residents who used to get by just fine, but got into trouble due to dismissal etc.

Toy parcels can still be collected until Saturday.
