Funds being raised to address vacant industrial estates

Funds of between €8-16million are being raised to address the growing number of vacant industrial estates in Eindhoven, according to the Brabantse Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij (Brabant Development Agency/BOM).

The agency has so far raised between €2-4million, with the rest expected to come from regional municipalities and the province. Contributions paid towards the development of the new Brainport Industries at Landelijk Strijp will also help.

The Brainport campus will house innovative manufacturers such as KMWE and NTS Group, both ASML suppliers.

Eindhoven’s municipality supports the development but many entrepreneurs in the area think more attention should be given to sites currently vacant, and that manufacturers could be better accommodated in those existing spaces, such as De Run in Veldhoven.

Plans are now being formed to prevent deterioration of existing sites and allow for renovation. The Brainport campus will also remain on track.

Councillors are positive about the fundraising, with further talks planned for later this year or early 2016.
