Life-sized rabbit cage at 18 Septemberplein

On Wednesday 26 August, all passers-by at 18 Septemberplein are invited to show their support for European rabbits. They can do so by hanging padlocks on a large rabbit cage, a veiled reference to the well-known phenomenon on many bridges.

Animal welfare organization Compassion World Farming Netherland undertakes this action to draw attention to the plight of the more than 300 million rabbits in the European livestock industry. These rabbits are often maltreated and kept in cages that are too small.

The keys to the locks will be forwarded to Secretary of State Dijksma. She is thus requested to show her love for animals and symbolically open the cages by banning animal-unfriendly housing.

The large rabbit cage will travel from Eindhoven to Nijmegen and The Hague.
