Boy gets prison for threatening Prime Minister Rutte

An 18-year-old boy from Geldrop has been sentenced to almost two years in prison for threatening Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the court ruled today.

The boy sent death threats via WhatsApp to a girlfriend. The threats were directed to Rutte and another person who also read the messages. In addition, the defendant had a gas gun, ammunition and a silencer in his house.

Experts declared the boy from Geldrop not to be fully accountable as he was a minor. Therefore, after the sentence he will be intensively supervised, so that he gets his life back on track.

Ten months of imprisonment are conditional. The court will impose a probation after the trial period up to three years.
