ASML confirms attack by hackers

Dutch semiconductor equipment maker, ASML said that they were undergoing investigation on a detected unauthorised intrusion into the company’s IT systems, it was announced on Sunday.

On Friday, Dutch technology website tweakers.nl reported that a break-in had taken place immediately whose sources pointed a break-in by the Chinese government. But ASML says it could not be certain until further investigation takes place.

ASML states that it did not take long before the attack was discovered. Only a limited amount of data might have been accessed by the hackers and has not compromised information of ASML’s customers and suppliers. The company continues to improve systems to ward against such break-ins.

ASML will not provide further information unless there are significant developments to report.
