‘Aardappeleters’ (potato eaters) in bronze in Nuenen

The famous painting ‘De Aardappeleters’ (potato eaters) of Vincent van Gogh, will be sculpted as well. The farmers are going to be life-size cast in bronze, and gain a prominent place in the middle of Nuenen.

According to the ‘Eindhovens Dagblad’ the Eindhoven-based artist Peter Nagelkerke already advanced with the work. The bronze casting has already begun, and 125 pieces must be welded together.

The bronze casting costs about 100.000 Euros. Nagelkerke wants to raise this money through sponsors, grants and crowdfunding. The budget is not yet complete, but he is confident it will succeed. The sculpture should be ready in March, and will get a place in the Park in Nuenen.

The year 2015 is dedicated to Vincent van Gogh, it is exactly 125 years ago, the painter died. He lived and worked for years in Nuenen. Late last year, in the context of 125 years Van Gogh, Van Gogh-tulip bulbs were planted in Nuenen.
