PSV pulls a difficult victory in Arnhem

The second half of the Premier Soccer League begins with a victory for PSV with a 1-0 match against Vitesse.

PSV started strongly in last Saturday’s game in Arnhem with Adam Maher scoring after the first 10 minutes, however could not work up on a second goal.

It was not an easy match as Vitesse came close to scoring a few goals in the course of the first half, with Arnhem taking the lead in ball possession.

PSV tried to strengthen their position in the second half with Luuk de Jong. That worked initially: Luuk de Jong had a great chance but headed against the post. And Memphis Depay was close to scoring too but missed the goal by a hairline chance.

Vitesse put more pressure again at the final stage of the match with a number of opportunities, but left PSV to take home the win, a three point victory. PSV remains on top of the ‘Eredivisie’ Soccer League rankings with four points ahead of Ajax, trailing in second place.

After the game PSV coach, Phillip Cocu, expressed he is ‘fairly satisfied’. "The game was not to write home about, but the team’s fighting spirit was worth talking about", he said. "Playing against Vitesse on their home field is a tricky game", he added. "The three points win are the most important". Although the team did not own the game, Cocu was therefore still quite pleased.
