PSV has reached the group stage of the Europa League after defeating FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk in Belarus last night.
Memphis Depay struck twice (in the 89th minute and the first minute of added time) to secure a 2-0 away win over a bravely battling FC Shakhtyor.
Afterwards, coach Phillip Cocu admitted that it had not been an easy match for PSV. "FC Shakhtyor were waiting in the first half to pounce on our mistakes. They played more attacking football after the break and then gave away space. So we had chances to strike twice in the closing stages", he said. "It was our aim to qualify for the group stages and we’ve succeed in reaching the objectives we had for this game".
The coach was looking forward to the draw in Monaco today.
This afternoon it was announced that his team will have to compete with Panathinaikos FC, FC Dinamo Moscow and the Portuguese Estoril Praia in the next round of the Europa League. It is not clear yet when the matches will be played.
