Philips wins ‘patent battle’, Nintendo plans to appeal

Nintendo infringed on patents held by Philips in their Wii game console, a UK court decided. Nintendo does not agree and will seek appeal to the decision.

Philips says Nintendo used Philips’ patented motion and gesture tracking technology in their Wii game console.

They also sued Nintendo over the patents in other countries such as the U.S., Germany and France. They request compensation for the use of their patents and also demand the ban of Wii sales in the U.S.

Nintendo, however, is going to appeal the decision taken by the U.K. Court. ‘Nintendo has a long history of developing innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others’, the company said in a press statement.
