Oak processionary control has commenced

Today, the municipality of Eindhoven started the fight against oak processionary caterpillars.

The little creatures are not dangerous, but can be quite annoying. The hairs on the caterpillars cause itching, irritation of skin and eyes, and respiratory problems.
The oak processionary caterpillars eat oak leaves and walk as if they were in a procession. That is where they got their name.

With the assistance of environmental experts from the municipal health department GGD, a substance that eventually kills the caterpillars, will be sprayed on to the trees.
